Don’t Yell at Your Screen

I know it from the moment I hear it…curse-filled mumbling about “can’t-get-the-bleepin’ printer working.” Sometimes, because it’s my own voice… Technology can be maddening.

A few clicks later, you’re yelling questions like “why can’t you just WORK??” at a screen. Full-on tech tantrum.

Next come the big questions, such as: “why is everything so complicated?” while huffing and puffing about.

Afterwards, it’s harder to focus on achieving your goals—archive photos, listen to music, login, you name it.

Tech can be frustrating and poorly designed. But getting all angry about it only tires YOU out. In with rage, out goes clarity… when the most effective solution is usually to step back, take a beat, and reset.

Don’t fall victim to a Tech Tantrum. Here’s how.

Cool Your Jets

Take a step back; recognize the futility of yelling at a machine. Question: will it behave differently, or address your complaint, once berated? No. It’s a machine.

Save Your Energy

Getting angry and stomping about something you cannot change depletes YOU, not the blasted technology. Instead of running out of steam before you know what you’re doing…

Know Where to Turn for Help

There is an answer to every tech problem: Google. Rely on credible resources, like well-known news outlets, or YouTube videos with positive ratings, and you’ll be back on track in no time.

The tech tantrum is tempting, especially when software does not do what it’s supposed to do! Like, a lot. Nobody’s perfect, least of all machines.

Next time you feel yourself shouting at the screen… remember the 5th Tech Commandment: when in doubt, restart. Don't have a copy of my tech commandments? Subscribe to my newsletter for your free copy today.
